Grata Recordatio – “Among the pleasant recollections of Our younger days are the Encyclicals … written to the whole Catholic world …” Pope John XXIII

Recordatio features all the encyclicals of the last fifty years.

Pope Benedict XVI: DEUS CARITAS EST – I wish in my first Encyclical to speak of the love which God lavishes upon us and which we in turn must share with others.

Pope John Paul II: VERITATIS SPLENDOR – No one can escape from the fundamental questions: “What must I do?” “How do I distinguish good from evil?” The answer is only possible thanks to the splendour of the truth.

Pope Paul VI: MENSE MAIO – Since Mary is rightly to be regarded as the way by which we are led to Christ, the person who encounters Mary cannot help but encounter Christ likewise. For what other reason do we continually turn to Mary except to seek the Christ in her arms, to seek our Savior in her.

Vatican II: GAUDIUM ET SPES – Through Christ and in Christ, the riddles of sorrow and death grow meaningful. Apart from His Gospel, they overwhelm us. Christ has risen, destroying death by His death; He has lavished life upon us.

Pope John XXIII: PAENITENTIAM AGERE – Jesus Christ taught us self-discipline and self-denial when He said: “If anyone wishes to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
